So why make this effort? Since 1985 Wiz-War has made a lot of people happy, providing loads and loads of hours of fun for friends and families. Sadly, quite some time ago the publisher,
Chessex decided to start pushing the release of a rumored 8th edition further and further out. As Tom Jolly, the creator of the game says on one of his
Webpages, "The Eight edition is due out sometime in the future! Plus or minus some period of time of unknown length. It's certainly close enough." However that was in 2003. More recent rumors of a release in the summer of 2007 were squashed when Chessex stated that they were short of resources.
So where does that leave us, the loyal Wiz fans that have been waiting for a very long time for a new edition? That's the intent behind this site: If Chessex can't/won't release a new version, it's conceivable that they might be willing to either put the game out if they see enough of an interest (and therefor the potential for recouping their costs) or to release their ownership of the rights if someone else were to come along and make a decent offer to buy it. At least, we can always hope.
So if you're one of the hopeful and feel like taking a second, please sign the
petition. Once/If we get a decent number of electronic signatures, we'll approach Chessex with the request. So tell your friends, family and anyone else who misses Wiz-War to come by and put their names on the list. Hopefully, we'll be able to get a new edition out...
